Otocinclus affinis is a myth, which was fed by mistakes and wrong statements.
The Otocinclus species exported to Europe never were Otocinlus affinis.
Nevertheless you very often see small catfish at the store being sold as O. affinis.

O. hoppei has a clear characteristic, which differentiates him from all others.
The point of peduncle is distinct over the entire width of the peduncle and convex rounded to the back.

O. macrospilus possesses clear characteristics, too. Its back is always spotted "tigerlike".
This pattern already begins shortly behind the Rostrum. Often offered as O. affinis.

the continuous lateral line makes it nearly unmistakable.
